CMDS Terminology & Hierarchy

In an Organization, Learners are assigned to Departments created in CMDS. Each Department has a set of Profiles and Programs available for assignment to its Learners. Each Program contains a list of Achievements based on premise of the Program. Each Profile has a set of Competencies that best represent the role and function of the Profile. Competencies have Achievements attached to them to fulfill the 'Knowledge' needed to safely perform a task. Achievements are classified by their type, and depending on the Achievement Type, a File or Link may be attached to be reviewed and signed-off by the Learner. Learners use their Accounts to complete the Achievements that are assigned to them.

Departments

Hold a set of Profiles and Programs available for assignment to Learners.

Profiles

  • The list of tasks (duties) that a person must be able to do and understand to perform their job safely and work independently.
  • Composed of a list of competencies that make up an employee's job description.

Programs

  • A template of achievements that can be uniformly assigned to Learners.
  • These achievements may not be assigned through competencies, but are necessary or recommended for the Learner to complete for their role.

Competencies

  • Consist of the knowledge and skills needed to safely perform a task.
  • Require validation from a Validator.
  • Can be "Critical" or "Non-critical" based on risk and time sensitivity.

Validation Bottleneck: Validators cannot validate a Learner's competency unless they are validated themselves.

Achievements

  • Items consisting of files, links, lessons and quizzes, or external training required for completion that contribute to the knowledge and skills of competencies.
  • Some achievements require a safety certificate to be uploaded by your administrator.

Achievement types:

  • Additional Compliance Requirements
  • Orientations
  • Corporate Safe Operating Practices
  • Site Safe Operating Practices
  • Operating Procedures
  • Human Resources Documents
  • e-Learning Modules
  • Time-Sensitive Safety Certificates

Files and Links are typically attached to:

Accounts

  • Accounts are created by the administrators of the organization.
  • Learners use these accounts to complete training that is assigned to them or that is deemed supplemental.
